A.H.A. Basic Life Support Instructor Course
The healthcare instructor course provides the instructor candidate with the knowledge and skills to conduct basic life support (B.L.S.) education according to A.H.A. standards. Candidates will be guided in the development of teaching techniques and C.P.R. concepts through lecture and manikin practice.
The course is offered once a month from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. (Click here to see schedule)

HOW TO BECOME AN AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION BLS CPR INSTRUCTOR
The BLS Instructor course teaches the methods needed to effectively instruct others in CPR/AED, and First Aid. The AHA requires BLS instructors be at least 16 years of age.
Step One / Prerequisites
1. Current AHA BLS Provider Card (Email a copy of card to email@example.com)
2. Complete BLS Instructor Essentials Online Course* See Link Below (Print Certificate)
3. Obtain the BLS Instructor Manual**See Link Below
4. Register for a BLS Instructor Class***(Go to Schedule Page)
Step Two/Attend the Instructor Course
Attend an American Heart Association’s BLS for Healthcare Providers Course Instructor Course.
Bring the documents listed above to the instructor course.
Step Three/Get Monitored Teaching
Receive your BLS Instructor card after being monitored successfully teaching a BLS/CPR class within 6 months of completion of Instructor course. Instructor cards are received approximately 10 days after being monitored.
*BLS Instructor Essentials Course - The American Heart Association’s Instructor Essentials Course can be found at https://elearning.heart.org/courses. Cost is $34. The course takes approximately 1-2 hours to complete. Please complete the appropriate, discipline specific course (BLS) and bring your completion certificate with you to your instructor class.

(Item 15-1009). Provides lesson maps and information for teaching the classroom-based and blended-learning options for the Basic Life Support (BLS) course. Cost is $39.25.
Once all steps above are successfully completed, the participant will become an American Heart Association BLS Instructor and be able to conduct classes on their own.
